Job Stories From Aroostook County, ME
Damp Basement in Houlton, ME, Gets Much Needed Waterproofing

A homeowner in Houlton had a damp basement, which was beginning to become a problem for them. A damp basement is a great place for mold to grow, and a moldy basement could easily become a health concern. This homeowner decided to do something about it once they heard about TC Hafford though a friend who had previously received satisfactory service from us. After our representative, Vera Hafford, took a look, we had a team dispatched to start work on the basement.

The basement needed all new concrete to be poured. While pouring the new basement floor, we installed a WaterGuard system around the perimeter of the basement. This system will take any and all water trying to enter the basement, and guide it to a sump. In the case off this Houlton home, that sump is a TripleSafe sump pump. This sump is specially designed with three pumps, to keep the water out should one, or even two of the pumps break, or malfunction. This sump then pumps the water out of the house, through an IceGuard pipe, which will allow water to escape should the pipe become blocked. This project was finished with an extension to the discharge line that the water uses to leave the house. If the discharge line is too short, the water may find its way back into the basement right after being pumped outside.

Basement In Woolwich, ME, Waterproofed The Right Way

A homeowner in Woolwich was experiencing issues with water seeping into his basement. This water would collect into small pools, and created not only an unusable basement, but also a great environment for mold to grow. Seeing how much of a problem this could cause, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford as soon as he saw an ad for us on television. This was the right move, and we had just the solution for these basement troubles.

To start the project, we dug up the interior perimeter of the concrete floor of the basement. This was to make room for our WaterGuard system. This system will rest slightly under the perimeter of the floor. The reason for this, is because water will enter the basement through both the walls and the floor. By placing the WaterGuard here, it will attract and capture all the water before it reaches the surface of the basement floor. The water is then diverted to our next installed device, the SmartSump sump pump. This takes the captured water and pumps it out of the basement through PVC piping. Finally, the IceGuard filter was attached directly outside the house, as a part of the PVC pipe system. This IceGuard will allow water to escape the pipe, should a clog happen that might otherwise prevent the water from exiting the pipe. Now this homeowner’s basement is dry for good!

Leaky Basement In Bridgewater, NH Kept Dry With WaterGuard

A couple in Bridgewater had started to notice puddles of water appearing on their concrete basement floor. This water was clearly entering in through the floor and walls of the basement; but the homeowners had no way of preventing this and needed professional help. This is when they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems. We had a representative look at the basement, give the homeowners a free estimate, then we got to work!

We started off by digging up the interior perimeter of the basement, and removing the debris. Laying down WaterGuard pipes all along the inside of this new trench. This WaterGuard will capture all of the water entering in through the concrete walls or floor, guiding it out of the basement through the sump. The WaterGuard is then covered over with loose rocks, which act as a barrier so the cement poured over the top conceals the WaterGuard within the floor, while not diminishing its effectiveness. Now these homeowners are puddle free!

Wet Basement In Caribou, ME Kept Dry With WaterGuard

A homeowner in Caribou was experiencing trouble with water leaking into their basement. This problem needed to be resolved immediately, because the homeowner wanted to finish their basement in the near future. Although they wouldn’t be able to finish their basement with regular flooding, they knew they could fix this problem. After a quick internet search, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to set up a free estimate. They received their free estimate, and our crew got to work!

We began by digging a trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This enabled us to lay our WaterGuard pipe system down within the floor. This was then covered over with loose rocks and cement to hide it under the floor without hindering functionality. This WaterGuard will capture any water trying to enter through the walls or floor, guiding it out of the basement. We then covered the walls of the basement with BrightWalls. These are solid plastic panels that hold back water coming in through the upper side of the walls. This water is then funneled to the WaterGuard, where it exits the basement.

With these two systems in place, the homeowner can finish their basement without fear. Water damage would not be an issue in the future of this homeowner’s basement!

WaterGuard Protects Madawaska, ME Basement From Water Damage

A homeowner in Madawaska was in the process of finishing their basement, but couldn’t due to wet conditions. Needing a way to stop the water before proceeding with their basement, the homeowner got online to find a fix. This is where they found TC Hafford Basement Systems. They called us right away and set up a meeting with our representative. We gave them their free estimate, and they chose what work they wanted done. We sent in our crew and got to work!

We excavated the interior perimeter of the basement floor to begin work. We needed a trench surrounding the basement in order to waterproof it properly. In this trench, we laid down our WaterGuard pipe system. This is a specially designed pipe that captures water as it enters the basement through the walls or the floor. These pipes were covered over with loose rocks and cement to hide them without halting their function. The water collected in the WaterGuard follows the pipes to the sump in the basement. In the sump, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will take any and all water brought to it and force it up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line.

This homeowner can now pursue a nice finished basement without needing to worry about water damage. Thanks to WaterGuard, they will no longer have a wet basement!

Flooding Basement In Sinclair, ME Kept Dry With WaterGuard

Bruce from Sinclair had a basement that would flood every time it rained a lot. This needed to end as soon as possible, because water damage was a serious threat. Searching online for a solution, Bruce soon found TC Hafford Basement Systems. He called us up to set an appointment, and we had our representative head over to the home. We inspected the basement, gave Bruce a free estimate, then we got to work!

We began by creating a trench in the floor surrounding the basement. This is where we laid our WaterGuard piping system. WaterGuard pipes are designed to capture water as it enters through the cement, guiding it out through the sump. The WaterGuard is then covered over with loose rocks and cement to conceal it within the floor. Next, we installed a SuperSump sump pump along with an UltraSump backup battery. This combination will keep pumping water out of the basement in the heaviest of rain storms, even if the home is without power. The water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line, which we attached an IceGuard piece to on the exterior of the home. The IceGuard is a special pipe that will allow the water to exit the side of the line in the event of a blockage further down the pipe.

Now Bruce should no longer fear water damage in his basement! With these systems in place, flooding is a thing of the past!

Wet Basement in Presque Isle, ME Dried with WaterGuard Installation

With water regularly entering their basement, a homeowner living in Presque Isle, ME was ready to have something done about it. After hearing about of from a friend, they gave our office a call and set up their basement waterproofing! Once they ecided they wanted to have the work done, our installation crew was dispatched.

When they got to the home, our crew started work on thsi basement by excavating a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement. This is where our WaterGuard piping was then laid, surrounding the basement. Where the piping ran beneath a door leading otuside, a TrenchDrain was used. While the WaterGuard is covered over with a fresh layer of concrete, the TrenchDrain is left at the surface, level with the floor with an upward facing grate leading down into the WaterGuard. Now when water leaks in through the floor of the space, it will become trapped within the WaterGuard and guided through the floor to the sump.

With the WaterGuard in place, it was time to upgrade the sump drain. We installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor of the basement, connected to the WaterGuard. Now any water collected by the pipes will be guided driectly to the sump for removal. The SuperSump can remove over 2,600 gallons of water from the basement every hour. Following the discharge line outside, we made two final additions to the system. First was an IceGuard pipe section to prevent any water from backing up and overflowing the sump if a blockage occurs. Second was a LawnScape cap for the end of the line, to pleasantly incorporate the pipe with the lawn.

With these improvements to their home, this homeowner sould no longer suffer from a flooding basement! The WaterGuard piping will keep water from gathering on the floor in the future.

WaterGuard Piping Keeps Madawaska, ME Basement Safe from Flooding

WaterGuard Piping Keeps Madawaska, ME Basement Safe from Flooding
Story: With a basement that would regularly take on water during any rainfall, a homeowner living in Madawaska was in need of some waterproofing. Unable to prevent the water from entering through their concrete foundation, this homeowner searched online for ways to solve their problem. They soon discovered us at TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us for a free estimate. After they heard their options, the homeowner had us begin work on their basement!

Once our installation crew arrived, they started this waterproofing with the installation of WaterGuard piping. This required a shallow trench to be excavated into the perimeter of the concrete floor. The WaterGuard pipes were then laid within this trench before being buried by a fresh layer of concrete. Now inside the floor, these pipes will capture any incoming moisture, guiding it directly to the sump where we installed a SuperSump pump. This pump will force the collected water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. This will ensure the sump is never overwhelmed by heavy rain.

With their basement waterproofing complete, this homeowner is now without worry during any rainfall, knowing their new WaterGuard piping system is keeping their basement floor dry.
