Crawl Space Repair Case Studies: Proper Vapor Barrier Protects Strong, ME Crawlspace from Moisture
Challenge
A homeowner in Strong, ME was living with a damp crawlspace beneath their home. This was quickly becoming a problem when the moisture started to produce a musty smell in the home. Unsure how to keep this moisture out on their own, the homeowner sought a solution online. They then called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the vapor barrier which needed to be put in to protect this crawlspace from future moisture. This started with a Drainage Matting being laid across the floor of the crawlspace. This mat sits just above the surface of the floor so that water beneath it maintains the ability to flow and find a place to drain out of the home through the ground without being able to enter the air in the crawlspace. Next, a CleanSpace liner was used to encapsulate the space. This covered all of the walls as well as the floor with a thin sheet of plastic. This locks out future moisture leaks, preventing any more water-related problems from taking root or worsening in this crawlspace.
With their new vapor barrier in place, this homeowner will no longer have to put up with a musty smell or any other moisture problems. The Drainage Matting & CleanSpace combination will keep the space water-free for many years to come!
