Wet Crawl Space Repair in Cushing, Maine

Challenge

Homeowners in Cushing, Maine were dealing with serious moisture issues beneath their home. They often had critters getting into the crawl space, and at times observed as much as a foot of standing water. Water in a crawl space can cause big problems over time, leading to mold or rot on the wooden structural beams of the home. The adjacent basement also had issues with inefficient heating, even after the owners had installed radiant flooring.

Our Inspection

We assessed the property for a free estimate, and our inspection found the dirt floors in the crawl space were allowing groundwater to seep in and flood the space, especially in rain events. The basement area had no insulation, allowing cold air in around windows and doorways.

Solution

To address the crawl space, we designed a comprehensive solution:

Encapsulated the crawl space with drainage matting and our CleanSpace vapor barrier to seal out moisture
Installed a TripleSafe sump pump system to effectively manage and remove water
Applied Spray Foam insulation in the crawl space to improve energy efficiency, as well as an added vapor barrier
Installed an EverLast Access Panel providing a secure closure to the crawl space access so critters can't get in

In the basement we installed Spray Foam insulation on the walls to improve the energy efficiency. Spray Foam expands as it is applied, filling all gaps and cracks to create an air tight seal. Spray Foam insulation is also moisture and mold resistant, making it a great option for below grade insulation.

The Installation

On day one of the project the foreman installed the TripleSafe sump pump system, drainage matting and CleanSpace vapor barrier encapsulation, and EverLast Access Panel in the crawl space. On day two, our Spray Foam Specialist Travis applied the Spray Foam insulation in both the crawl space and basement areas.

The Result

The transformation was immediate and impactful. The crawl space is now dry and protected, while the sump pump system provides reliable water management. The home is noticeable warmer and energy efficienct.
