A Small Leak Leading to a Swamp

This Kittery, ME homeowner has water coming into their space, causing havoc when it rains. With no plans to move or sell the home, it was important to them to take care of the issue, so their home doesn’t turn into a swamp. The homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems for help and scheduled an appointment with System Design Specialist Michael Penna. During the free estimate, they worked together to design a system that would meet the needs of the home and surpass the expectations of the homeowner.

Wanting the space to be dry all the time, WaterGuard was laid around the perimeter and connected to a TripleSafe Sump Pump System. WaterGuard ports were installed for easy clean-out, and TrenchDrain was laid in high-traffic areas, such as the door, to catch and channel as much water as possible to the TripleSafe. Water is then pumped out of the basement through a buried discharge line and away from the home, where it won’t be a problem. Now the homeowner can relax, knowing that their space is protected and their home is healthy.

Dirt Floor Crawl Space Encapsulation in Kittery, Maine

We transformed this Kittery, Maine crawl space that was damp and musty, into a dry and healthy space. The old dirt floors allowed moisture to seep in, causing the fiberglass insulation to be damp and sag. Moisture can also significantly damage the wooden support beams for the home over time, leading to mold or rot. We installed CleanSpace vapor barrier, which is a liner that seals out moisture and is treated to prevent mold growth. We also removed the fiberglass insulation and installed Spray Foam insulation. Spray Foam not only seals out cold air, but it is also water and mold resistant, unlike fiberglass.

Kittery, ME Crawl Space Seeking Vapor Barrier

This Kittery, ME, homeowner had a crawl space connected to their basement with a dirt floor. Even though there was a sheet of plastic over the dirt, the homeowner wanted to install a vapor barrier to protect the home and retain it’s value. The homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems and booked a free estimate with System Design Specialist Michael Penna.

The crawl space was prepped by removing the old plastic and regrading the area to flatten it out a bit. Drainage Matting was laid on the ground and is designed to collect water from the crawl space floor and direct it to a sump pump. CleanSpace was then installed and attached to the walls to create a vapor barrier and protect the crawl space from moisture and critters. CleanSpace features a thick and durable inorganic construction that brightens up the area and turns a humid crawl space into the perfect storage area. Currently this crawl space is dry, but the homeowner wanted to be as protected as possible, so they opted to install a Sump Liner for the easy installation of a Zoeller sump pump if needed in the future. To finish out the system, a SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier was installed and CleanSpace Vent Covers to keep the outside air from coming into the crawl space.

Encapsulating Dirt Crawl Space in Kittery, Maine

We met with homeowners in Kittery, Maine who wanted to encapsulate their crawl space. Dirt floors are common in crawl spaces, but they often let moisture seep in and wreak havoc. We installed our two-step encapsulation system, first a layer of drainage matting to control the groundwater, and then a layer of CleanSpace vapor barrier to seal out the moisture. Spray Foam insulation was installed on the walls and rim joists. Spray Foam is both water and mold resistant, so it is a great option for basements and crawl spaces.

EverLast Wall Restoration in Kittery, ME

Kittery, ME homeowners reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for help when they found water from one room in their basement was leaking into another room. System Design Specialist John W. met with the owners to give a free estimate on waterproofing the space.

We installed WaterGuard around the perimeter of the basement, which channels water to the new TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe features 2 Zoeller pumps, as well as a battery back up in the event of power loss. The affected walls were replaced with EverLast Wall Restoration panels, an inorganic product that is not only resistant to water damage but also will not support the growth of any mold or mildew. Lastly, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to help control the humidity in the basement.
