While it’s normal to have some fractures in your basement slab, water should not be coming through, and it should not be crumbling. This Portland, Maine homeowner recently moved into their home and knew they needed to address the issue in their basement. System Design Specialist Michael Penna met with the homeowner and put together a system that would protect their home from future water damage and outside elements.
The original slab in the basement was beyond repair, and a new one was necessary. Drainage Matting is laid down to create a barrier between outside elements and the new slab. This protects the new slab and aids in keeping water where it should be. WaterGuard is set around the perimeter of the basement and connected to a TripleSafe Sump Pump System. The new slab is poured, and TripleSafe is connected to a buried exterior discharge line that takes any groundwater away from the basement.
Your basement doesn’t have to be the scariest part of your home, and with TC Hafford Basement Systems, we can make sure that it isn’t.
This Portland, ME, home was built on silty fill, and over the years, the home had settled, leading to the foundation cracking and allowing water to seep in. Needing to stabilize the foundation to prevent damage to their home, the homeowner booked a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Brian Donnolly worked with the homeowner to design a waterproofing and stabilizing system that would protect the health of the home and keep the family safe.
First Push Piers were installed to stabilize the foundation and prevent it from further settling, protecting the home from costly damage. The Push Pier system utilizes high-strength round steel tubes and brackets to lift sinking foundations. WaterGuard was installed to capture and channel water to the new UltraSump to keep the basement dry all of the time. The UltraSump pumps the water through an Exterior Buried Discharge line that takes the water away from the home. The system is protected against ice buildup during the winter with the installation of IceGuard. BrightWall was installed along the wall where cracks had previously formed to act as a vapor barrier and channel any moisture to the WaterGuard. Now the homeowner is able to enjoy their basement and use it for storage without moisture or water causing them issues, and they can live in their home without the concern of their foundation potentially failing.

Auburn, ME homeowners contacted TC Basement Systems for help with their wet and leaky basement. They bought the home in November and by springtime realized the snow melt and rainwater was seeping into the basement where the wall meets the floor. They were constantly having to use towels to try to cleanup and dry the area. We installed WaterGuard, a perimeter drainage system that channels any moisture to their new TripleSafe sump pump system. The TripleSafe has a battery back up in case of power loss, as well as a back up pump in the event of pump failure. No more ruining towels for these happy homeowners!
