A Small Crawl Space but Big Troubles
This Winterport, ME, homeowner was looking to save money on their energy bill and have a more energy-efficient home. Their crawlspace wasn’t sealed, which allowed cold air to seep in, leading to higher heating bills. Wanting to take care of the issue and create a more comfortable home, the homeowner scheduled a free estimate with Dr. Energy Saver by TC Hafford Basement Systems. System Design Specialist Nima Farshid met with the homeowner, and they worked together to design a crawl space encapsulation system that would help them achieve a more energy-efficient home.   The space needed to be encapsulated to create an inorganic barrier between the outside elements and the crawl space. Drainage Matting was laid down, which features large, stiff dimples that create a gap. CleanSpace is laid on top of the Drainage Matting and attached to the walls. CleanSpace encapsulates the crawl space, and with the white coating, CleanSpace helps to brighten the area, making it ideal for storage. Finally, SprayFoam was installed around the rim joist and where necessary. Now the homeowner is able to live in a more comfortable home without having to continuously change their thermostat and while saving money on their energy bill.
Wet Basement After Winter in Winterport
Winterport, ME homeowner reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems for help with their leaking basement. The owner noticed water coming in from heavy rains and spring run off. System Design Specialist Craig Z. met with the owner to evaluate the basement. We installed a TripleSafe Sump Pumps system, along with a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. The SaniDry Sedona drains directly to the TripleSafe, which allows the basement to be kept at a safe humidity level all of the time without the homeowner having to empty a bucket of water to keep it running. The homeowner can relax knowing the basement is protected and will not have to deal with a wet mess any more.
SaniDry Provides Healthy Air To Islesboro, ME Basement
A homeowner in Islesboro had a basement which they were in the process of finishing. This basement, however, had a moisture problem, which was causing mold growth, and an unpleasant smell. Requiring professional help, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems after hearing about us from a friend. We got them their free estimate, and then we got to work! Within the basement, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. The SaniDry will take in the air immediately surrounding itself. This air is then dried out and pushed back into the further reaches of the basement. This causes the air in between to be forced towards the SaniDry, creating a cycle until all of the moisture is gone. With this new dehumidifier in place, the environment in which mold thrives had been entirely removed. Eliminating this homeowners problem!
TripleSafe Pump Installation Protects Flooding Islesboro, ME Basement
This property owner with a home in Islesboro, ME had recently discovered the basement in this home to be covered by a puddle of water following a recent storm. This needed to be resolved immediately, so they searched online for a quick solution. Once they found our TC Hafford Basement Systems website, they called our office staff to see about receiving a free estimate on the repairs. We scheduled an appointment for them to speak with our sales representative on the details of the solution and they hired us to get the job done soon after said meeting concluded. When our installation crew arrived at the property, they got started by installing a TripleSafe sump system in the floor of the basement. Now any leaking water will flow into this sump and be removed from the basement through a PVC discharge line. The TripleSafe unit contains three pumps within itself. The first and second pumps both handle the bulk of the water with the secondary only activating if the primary is overwhelmed by the water level. The third and final pump runs off an internal battery. This pump will activate when the home loses power so that the basement remains dry even when the usual pumps cannot function. Outside the home, our crew made two additions to the discharge line before they were finished waterproofing this basement. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment intersected into the discharge line just beyond where it leaves the side of the home. The IceGuard has upward angled holes that only allow water blocked by ice or debris to escape the side of the line. This protects the basement against potential backups from outside. Finally, a LawnScape discharge port was used to cap the end of the line. This piece has a grate that covers the opening in the pipe to block any debris that might end up causing a blockage in the line. With these improvements to their home, this property owner no longer has a moisture problem to worry about! The TripleSafe pump will keep this basement floor water-free for years to come!
Hudson, ME Crawlspace Kept Dry With CleanSpace
A couple in Hudson were living with a rather musty crawlspace. The space had a moisture problem, that lead to a mold problem. This was the cause of the smell, and something the homeowners wanted to put an end to. Looking online for a solution, they found TC Hafford Basement Systems and called us right away! We gave them their free estimate, and then we got to work! We began by covering the crawlspace floor/wall joint with a Drainage Matting. This will hold back moisture trying to leak in, and give it time to drain back into the soil before it reaches the interior of the space. Next, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace Liner. This new lining will keep out any and all water that might have previously found its way inside. Finally, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier within the space. This dehumidifier will maintain a dry atmosphere within the space, killing off the mold that was attempting to thrive. With the new vapor barrier, and the dehumidifier in place, this couple will never need to worry about moisture gathering within their crawlspace again!
Flooding Basement In Milo, ME Drained With WaterGuard
A couple in Milo were seeking help in preventing their basement from flooding. During heavy rains, water would build up and sit on the basement floor, while their sump pump slowly did its best to remove the water. The couple got online and sought out their answer, soon finding TC Hafford Basement Systems, who they called right away. We gave them their free estimate, and then we got to work! To help eliminate the water building up on the basement floor, we dug out the inside perimeter of the basement floor to enable us to lay down our special WaterGuard pipe system just beneath the floor. It was then covered over with rocks and cement to bury it without stopping its function. The WaterGuard pipes will catch any water as it tries to enter the basement through the walls or floor via a phenomenon known as hydrostatic pressure. This water is then channeled to the sump in the basement. Within this sump, we replaced the old pump with a SuperSump. The Supersump is able to push 2,650 gallons of water per hour up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. With these two systems working in tandem, these homeowners will no longer have any water build up on their basement floor.
FlexiSpan Seal Protects Milo, ME Basement from Leaks
A homeowner from Milo, ME noticed a crack had opened on one of their basement walls. This crack had been letting outside moisture leak into the basement, which was immediately a problem for the homeowner. After hearing about our company from a friend, this homeowner called us at TC Hafford to set up their free estimate. They decided they wanted us to seal the crack so we dispatched our crew and got to work. When the installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the crack by prepping it for sealing with a coarse brush. Once clear of debris, a primary layer of sealant was applied within and around the crack.Next, a foam mat was layed over the sealant, along the length of the crack. Finally, a second layer of sealant was used to cover the structure, completing what is known as a Flexispan seal. This seal will keep any outside water from leaking in through the crack in the future. The foam core allows the FlexiSpan, as the name suggests, to flex slightly and conform to slight changes in the shape of the crack. With the crack sealed, this homeowner no longer needs to deal with water gathering on their basement floor. The FlexiSpan seal will keep this basement water-free for years to come!
TripleSafe Implementation Keeps Milo, ME Basement Safe from Flooding
Even though this Milo, ME homeowner had a sump in the floor of their basement, water would still occasionally overwhelm the sump and pool up across the floor. Dealing with these puddles was quickly getting tiresome for the homeowner, so they began looking for a way to solve the problem. After seeing TC Hafford on their TV, they called us right away to be set up with a free estimate. They spoke with our representative about their options and soon gave us the green light to waterproof their basement. As soon as our installation crew arrived at the property, they were able to get started on the basement right away. To enable this sump to handle the amount of water typically entering this space, a TripleSafe sump system was installed in the existing hole. The TripleSafe houses three individual pumps that operate at all hours to keep the basement water-free. The first and second pumps each work to remove the majority of the water, with the secondary pump only switching on if the primary pump is either overwhelmed by the volume of water or fails for any reason. The third pump operates on a battery, maintaining a dry basement even during power-outages. The water flowing through the TripleSafe exits the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water a distance from the home before releasing it onto the lawn to harmlessly drain away. This line terminates through a LawnScape pipe segment which covers the end of the line with a grate. This grate allows the water to flow freely while keeping out relatively large debris. Just beyond where the discharge line leaves the side of the home, an IceGuard pipe section was integrated into the line. The IceGuard is constructed with upward facing holes in the sides. These holes do not interfere with normal water flow from the home but will release any water blocked by ice or debris blocking the line. This will prevent water from backing up and overflowing the sump. With their new sump system in place, this homeowner can rest assured their basement will keep itself dry. The TripleSafe pump will keep this basement from flooding for years into the future!
Sump Pump Upgrade For Stockton Springs, ME, Basement
A homeowner in Stockton Springs with an existing sump system was beginning to have problems with their basement gathering water regardless. Needing a dry basement, this homeowner took to the internet to find a solution. Once they came across TC Hafford, they knew they had found their solution. After our representative inspected the sump, we had a crew get to work. The old pump was removed, and we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This pump will practically never malfunction. There are three pumps inside the TripleSafe, one for regular pumping. One backup pump for when the first pump either can’t handle the water, or stops functioning. Then a final third pump which runs on a battery to maintain pumping even without power in the home. To finish this project, we installed an IceGuard filter outside the house. The IceGuard is a special piece of pipe which allows for water to continue to be pumped out of the house should the lower end of the drainage pipe become blocked by debris. Now this homeowner has a dry basement, and it will stay that way!
Wet Crawlspace In Stockton Springs, ME Sealed With CleanSpace
Rick from Stockton Springs had a crawlspace that would gather water during rain. This normally wasn’t a problem for Rick, but it started to form a smell, that was finding its way into his home. He needed a way to stop moisture from gathering in his crawlspace if he wanted to put an end to this smell, so he got online and searched for a solution. Not long after he began his search, he found TC Hafford Basement Systems, who he decided was the right company for the job. Rick called us soon after and we got to work! The water entering his crawlspace was clearly coming in from the surrounding soil. Water can leak in through the soil rather easily when it rains. The water builds up in the soil, and then when the pressure is great enough, seeks out places where there is less pressure, AKA, Ricks crawlspace. To stop the water from entering, we encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace Liner. This is a thin sheet of plastic that will hold out any moisture trying to leak in through the walls or floor of the crawlspace. Rick can live odor free now that his crawlspace has been waterproofed!
