The Troubles of No Gutters and How Gutter Shutter Helps
Without gutters, a home can experience a variety of issues, such as soil erosion, damage to the landscape, pest infestation, and higher maintenance costs. Water can pool around the foundation of a home, which can lead to structural issues and damage to a home. Too much water around the fascia board can result in rotting over time, giving small critters access points in a home’s attic. Landscaping can also be ruined from oversaturation, and soil erosion can lead to damaged roots, killing flowers, bushes, and any other vegetation that would be around a home. This homeowner in Harmony, ME, wanted to avoid these issues, so they booked a free estimate with Gutter Shutter by TC Hafford Basement Systems.     System Design Specialist Josh Hamel met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a Gutter Shutter system that would fit the needs and aesthetics of their home. Gutter Shutter comes in multiple colors, allowing the homeowner to pick an option that matches with their home to prevent the gutter from sticking out. Gutter Shutter offers a larger, six-inch aluminum gutter that is formed and cut to length on site, resulting in a seamless construction. This means that Gutter Shutter is able to be constructed to fit a space on a home as short or as long as needed. The integrated shutter allows water to flow into the gutter but keeps leaves, critters, and other debris out, creating a clog-free design. With Gutter Shutter, a homeowner no longer needs to climb a ladder to clear a clog, and with the tough design, Gutter Shutter is strong enough to handle the harsh Maine winters. Ice buildup is a major concern in the winter months, as icicles can be dangerous and additional weight could be harmful to the home. Gutter Shutter is able to handle thawing snow better, preventing ice from building up. Now that the homeowner is protected with Gutter Shutter, they are able to keep their home healthier, and any landscaping that they decide to do won't be wasted because of water running off of their roof.
Moist Crawlspace In West Boothbay Harbor, ME Sealed With CleanSpace
A couple in West Boothbay Harbor were in a bit of a tough spot. They had a crawlspace that would gather large amounts of moisture, and no way to get rid of it. This moisture could easily lead to mold growth, and potentially health concerns for the homeowners. They called up TC Hafford Basement Systems right away to solve their problem, and we sent out our crew to get to work! To ensure water would no longer gather on the surfaces within the space, we needed to install a vapor barrier within the crawlspace. We encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace Liner. This covered all the walls, supports, and the floor of the crawlspace. The liner is made of a thin plastic, which the moisture cannot pass through. This will maintain a dry atmosphere within the crawlspace by not allowing the moisture in to begin with! With their new vapor barrier in place, this couple can rest assured no mold will be growing in their crawlspace.
West Boothbay Harbor, ME Basement Waterproofed Properly with WaterGuard Piping
When this homeowner living in West Boothbay Harbor, ME began to have a problem with water flooding into their basement, they immediately started looking for a solution. The rainwater was seemingly leaking in through their concrete foundation. After hearing about TC Hafford Basement Systems from a friend, they called us and received their free estimate. Once they spoke with our representative, they knew they wanted to move forward with the waterproofing as soon as possible. As soon as our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement by excavating a trench into the perimeter of the concrete floor. This enabled WaterGuard piping to be laid down, surrounding the interior of the basement floor. Covered by a layer of loose rocks and fresh concrete, the WaterGuard pipes will collect any leaking rainwater through small slits along the edge of each pipe. This water flows through the piping below the floors surface to the sump in the basement floor where it drains out of the home. After implementing the WaterGuard piping beneath the floor, our crew then began work on a solution for the accumulated moisture in the air. To achieve this, a SaniDry XP dehumidifier was installed on the basement floor. This device will pull in the air around itself, separating the moisture from it and circulating the dried air back into the basement. This will soon eliminate all of the moisture within the atmosphere of this basement and maintain dry, healthy conditions. The water collected by the SaniDry is passed through piping to the sump where it will also drain away from the home. With these new waterproofing solutions implemented below their home, this homeowner can now expect to find a dry basement whenever they decide to utilize the space. The WaterGuard piping and SaniDry XP will keep this basement free of moisture for years down the road.
Alna, ME Basement Protected From Water Damage by WaterGuard
A homeowner from Alna was having trouble with water finding its way into their basement. They had a sump in place, but it wasn’t doing a good enough job removing the water. Needing something done about this, the homeowner got online and searched for a solution. TC Hafford Basement Systems was the exact answer they were looking for! They gave us a call and we had a crew at the home to begin work shortly after. We started by digging up the interior perimeter of the basement floor. This gave us a trench to lay a WaterGuard system in. This WaterGuard will gather water as it enters through the walls or floor of the basement. We covered the WaterGuard with loose rocks, and then cement to conceal it below the floor without reducing the functionality. We installed a SmartSump sump pump in the old sump. This will take the water from the WaterGuard and push it up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. Now this homeowner has a working sump and no longer needs to worry about potential water damage.
Flooding Basement in Waterville, ME Drained With WaterGuard
A couple in Waterville were having trouble with water leaking into their basement. This leakage was exceptionally bad in one corner. The water would pool up on the floor and leave behind a smell when it would finally dry. The homeowners searched for a way to remedy this, eventually finding TC Hafford Basement Systems while watching their TV. They called us right away and received their free estimate. After they chose what work they wanted done on their basement, we got to work! We began by excavating the interior perimeter of the basement floor. This gave us a trench to lay our WaterGuard pipe into. This is a specially designed pipe which captures water as it tries to enter the basement through the walls or floor, via what is called hydrostatic pressure. This piping system then carries the water to the sump, where we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is composed of three pumps. One primary pump for the bulk of the water. A secondary pump in case the primary malfunctions. Then a third, battery-backup pump for when the power goes out. The water guided to the sump is then pushed out through a PVC Discharge line. On the exterior of the home, attached to a discharge line, we added an IceGuard piece. This unique piece of pipe allows water to continue to flow from the line, even if the lower end is blocked by any debris. With these systems in place, the water trying to enter the basement will be directed out of the basement before ever reaching the surface of the concrete floor. Now this couple can rest assured, they no longer have to deal with water collecting in their basement!
New Slab and Waterproofing in Waterville, ME
Every time it rained, water would come into this Waterville, ME, basement and leave a mess on the floor. After putting a tarp down to try and contain the mess, the homeowner knew they needed a permanent solution to their basement problems. The homeowner booked a free estimate with TC Hafford Basement Systems, and System Design Specialist Ken Castillo met with the homeowner and worked with them to design a system that was right for them. The homeowner opted to install a new Slab with WaterGuard. Before the new slab was poured, the area was cleaned out, and Drainage Matting was laid down to create an inorganic barrier between the outside elements and protect the new slab. WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement where needed to collect and channel water. The water needs to go somewhere, so the WaterGuard was connected to a new SuperSump Plus, which takes the water and pumps it out of the basement through a Exterior Buried Discharge line. The Discharge line takes the water far from the home and is protected from ice buildup with the installation of IceGuard. After the area was done being prepped, the new slab was ready to be poured, and the homeowner now has a wonderful basement that is safe to use, and the tarp can now be kept in the garage.

This device will pull in the surrounding moist air and separate the water from it. The dried air is circulated back into the basement to cycle more damp air closer to the SaniDry and continue the process. Any collected water is passed to the Condensate Pump to be removed from the home. This pump sends the water up and out of the basement through a discharge line. The water exits onto the lawn outside where it will drain away into the ground hamrlessly. Now this homeowner no longer suffers from a musty basement. Their new SaniDry will keep the air dry for years to come!

This will surely handle any amount of water trying to flood the basement. The SuperSump can handle 2,650 gallons of water per hour. No water would ever build up within this space again. The water is evacuated through a PVC discharge line, which we attached an IceGuard filter to on the exterior of the home.
